Manitoba is getting tougher on distracted drivers.

As of Aug. 1, 2013, Manitobans convicted of using a handheld device while driving will receive two demerits, in addition to a $200 fine.

Demerits affect your level on the Driver Safety Rating scale and will result in higher vehicle or driver's licence premiums.

One in four deaths on Manitoba roads involves a distracted driver – don't let a cell phone decide your last words.
